I worked for a fair trade social enterprise for 6 years, and experienced all the ups and downs of social business during that time. I then worked for two social enterprise support agencies in Yorkshire, before becoming self-employed in 2005.
I've worked with all sorts of social businesses - in sectors including older people's services, local food, recycling and fair trade. I find myself increasingly drawn to green businesses - and social entrepreneurs working outside of the third sector.

In other words, I help people to work things out for themselves so that they don't need me anymore. I do that through running workshops and training sessions, through one-to-one support on social business issues, and through helping social entrepreneurs to come up with no-nonesense social business plans. I also offer strategic consultancy to organisations which want to offer support to social enterprises.
Yet more than anything, I offer honest, unfiltered thoughts, feelings and opinions, inspired by years of trying to work out how to get better at achieving social change.

I'm pleased to say I've kept myself busy over the last few years. I've worked for a wide range of organisations, including support agencies, start-up social enterprises and Local Authorities. My recent clients have included Leeds City Council, Huddersfield University and The Soil Association.
My aim is to be a thought leader - helping to shape the future direction of social business.I've written articles for The Guardian, Social Enterprise and New Start Magazines, and my blog recently won the first Bloggers Circle prize for most-debated blog post of the month.
